We talk, play and learn at the same time!
These last months the students of 4th ESO have been helping and assisting the kindergarten pupils in their English classes. During the sessions we talk, teach and play with the young children trying to transmit as much as we can of the English language. Twice a week, two pairs of 4th ESO students cross the road to the other building and change their traditional everyday lessons to become experts on this specific language.
These peculiar classes are part of the Religion subject and they are meant to be dedicated to helping other people, doing a kind of a volunteer work. Some students help in elderly houses, others in special centres such as the Alzheimer Association; our team chose to help in the kindergarten improving the kids’ English.
The hours of class are generally oral where we try to teach the young children the basic vocabulary related to “colours”, “clothes”, “toys” and so on. It didn’t seem very easy at first, however after having tried one thousand ways to teach them this essential vocabulary, you realise that the most important and useful thing you can do is to play. While playing the child has fun and with it he/she remembers the specific words more and better.
